feature request - automated reminders

Hello,

I would like to suggest a new feature for task management that includes automated reminders.

Feature Description:

When creating a task (for example, "Math Study"),

• A start time (e.g., 08:00 AM - early morning)
• An end time (e.g., 13:00 PM - afternoon)

When the designated end time is reached (13:00 PM in this example), the system should:

1. Trigger a notification/alert sound
2. Display a message such as: "You've been working on [Task Name] since 08:00 AM. It's now 13:00 PM. Would you like to take a break or continue working?"
3. Provide options to either:
   • Take a break (pause the task)
   • Continue working (extend the session)
   • Or just continue the other task

Benefits:

• Promotes awareness of time spent on tasks

It sounds cool definitely, although I'm not sure how we will tackle notifications tho. Will need to do some research on that. I will try to tackle it in upcoming week

Hi @dhgatjeye! Sorry for not letting you know, I had kinda rough week
I did look into this and even created an implementation plan for that, but I'm still not sure if this functionality should be included out-of-the-box or rather done via some Plugin API that we will need to introduce and add this feature as ready-to-go plugin.

Don't get me wrong - idea is definitely awesome, but depending on path we will take, this feature will introduce desktop notifications so we would dive into specific OS hooks (probably via notify-rust crate) and also we would need to run some kind of background daemon/process, that will push those notifications even if you exit WorkTUImer, so we would need to potentially monitor CPU and Battery usage before releasing this.

So to sum it all - app will no longer be as lightweight as I initially designed it to be. But I don't want to trash this idea, because it's worth doing

I'm not closing the issue, will iterate that idea this week as well. I pushed a little last week, hopefully I will push it more this week

Hi, thank you so much for response. I completely understand your concerns about keeping the app lightweight.

From my suggestions maybe we can consider if it's works for project;

Notifications/alerts only when the app is active

Yeah, this will allow to not create any background process or daemon - although as you described - it will require you to keep the app open for notification to trigger which is also not ideal.

Hi, if it's okey for project we can take look at this;

In a mean usage, when I open the work tuimer I always hold the app open and set my tasks all over and look at plenty of time. And let say I closed the app, then can we consider it to when app reopen again the algorithm check if notification past or waiting, if it's waiting then okey it can wait and send a notification, if we were closed the app and reopen and notification time is past, then we can basically skip that is that could be considered?
