Software Carpentry Workshops #89

@wkearn

Description

@wkearn

We have discussed doing some Software Carpentry workshops this fall. These would be a good way to connect with people across BU and get them involved in the Study Group early.

Here is a tentative TODO:

  • Decide on some dates
  • Pick which workshops we want to do
  • Obtain a room
  • Publicize the workshops

For dates, I think the four Fridays in September after school starts (9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29) would be good if we can get things running that quickly. Alternatively, we could do Saturdays or a two day workshop over a single weekend.

For workshops, I think Unix, Git and two programming sessions (either Python or R) would be good.

CAS132 is not available on Fridays because of the E&E graduate student seminar.

We have discussed a small charge for the workshop. Discussions at the WOW convinced me that we should turn this into a suggested donation.
