[Bug]: Earlier api has cities endpoint now it is missing

Cities.json endpoint is missing, earlier it was present, Currently cities.json.gz is present, Can you please add cities.json?

What should it be?

Like state.json and country.json is present similarly cities.json should also be there.

Hi @aman18as! I'm Dosu and I’m helping the countries-states-cities-database team.

cities.json is now only available as a compressed file (cities.json.gz) to reduce repository size—this is an intentional change, not a bug (maintainer explanation).

If you need the uncompressed cities.json, you can easily extract it from cities.json.gz using a tool like gunzip, gzip, or 7-Zip. For example, on most systems you can run:

gunzip -k cities.json.gz

or

gzip -d -k cities.json.gz

This will produce cities.json in the same directory. There’s currently no plan to restore the uncompressed file in the repo, so you’ll need to decompress as part of your workflow. Let me know if you need help with this process or have other questions!
