Top Down 2D Game

Objective: To create a 2D game with interaction, ai, and scene transition

Challenges: Figuring out the enemy ai and camera work

Process:

First I sketched out various themes that I wanted my game to be. I thought about a simple side scroller but I decided on a top down similar to Zelda. Once I decided on the type of game I wanted, I fleshed out the health, inventory, characters and dialogue system that is common with top down games.

Once the sprites were made, I began to code out the functionaloty of the enemies and player learning ai enemy models from BlackThornProd and how to utilize Unity's tiles.

What I learned:

-How to encorporate music into a game -How to hand create 2d pixel animations -How to create enemy ai patterns -Implementing dialogue

Bug Log

  • The camera of the Bedroom level moves dont know why it happened as I was doing the pause menu

  • Dagger pushing player back when button is hit

  • Dagger isn't changing position as character changes position

  • Camera isnt being attached to the player when outside scene is activated --------> Resolved

  • Sheild - removed component

  • ? is not activating ----> removed component

  • Player isn't taking damage ---> Resolved march 10th

  • Signs can not be read ---> Resolved march 10th

  • Enemy isn't shooting ----> Resolved march 9th

How to use

  • clone the repository
  • Open the folder and click on the folder that says FinalBuilds
  • Open the folder that corresponds to your operating system
